Between brothers and soulmates

facts

Our vision

To be a leading and professional organization that promotes the field of sisterhood (brother-sister relationships) for people with mental health issues and has a broad influence on the field of mental health in Israel.

The association has a knowledge base for support, learning, and research on the subject of siblings of people with mental illness. Today, the place, role, and well-being of siblings of people with mental illness are not addressed and are unclear. Brothers and sisters do not have any "embarrassed teacher" explaining how to be a brother or sister of people with mental illness, and from that we set out.

Body of professional knowledge

The association was founded to foster a community of brothers and sisters for people with mental health issues, to provide ongoing support in dealing with personal challenges, and to help strengthen brotherly relationships.

This is the first organization in Israel that leverages the potential of sibling relationships with the aim of improving the quality of life of the entire family and promoting the integration of people with mental health issues into society.

Our mission

rikma-logo-pen.png

As siblings of people with mental illness, we often wear two hats: a sibling hat and a therapist hat. Studies show that siblings of people with mental illness are prone to high levels of mental distress, including depression, anxiety, and even post-traumatic stress disorder.

Our response offers participation in a community of brothers and sisters who deeply understand the struggle and seek to assist in many ways and on an ongoing basis according to needs.

Our activities

The onset of mental illness in a sibling is a life-changing event in the family. A huge part of the burden, but also of the potential for improvement, lies within the family.

The association's activities are based on the concept that the well-being of the brothers and sisters of mentally challenged people is critical to their ability to provide meaningful and ongoing support to their struggling brothers and parents who are overwhelmed by the burden of the task.

Led by dozens of dedicated volunteers – brothers, sisters and professionals – we will “tailor a modular suit” for each brother and sister, according to their personal needs and challenges. Supporting brothers and sisters will allow them to enhance their sense of worth and mental resilience, and even serve as a “force multiplier” – and contribute to the advancement of mental health in Israel.
